The origin of Morningside Ministries dates back to the mid-1950s with a resolution by the Southwest Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church on May 27, 1957 to create a board of managers for the establishment, maintenance, operation and management of homes for the elderly.

Recently, Morningside Ministries President and CEO Alvin Loewenberg announced Suzanne Huber as the new Executive Director of Morningside Ministries at The Chandler Estate. Morningside Ministries is faith-based, not-for-profit ministry serving older adults for almost 50 years.

“Suzanne has a wealth of experience from serving on the front lines as a case manager and social worker to her management and operational knowledge of a senior care community,” Loewenberg said. “She has worked within a variety of senior care models, and we are excited to have her as part of our leadership team at Morningside Ministries and The Chandler Estate.”

• Hospice care at Morningside Ministries provides a holistic approach to end-of-life care, and is intended to improve the quality of a patient's last days by offering comfort and dignity. Hospice is available to individuals who are in need of treatment for the reduction of  physical and emotional symptoms which have become unmanageable.

  rehabilitation after surgery or hospitalization.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Chandler Estate is located north of downtown San Antonio in the Monte Vista District. Its services and communities include assisted living, nursing and hospice care, retirement living apartments and the Chandler Center — an adult community center that offers life-enriching programs, classes, workshops and leisure activities.

As executive director, Huber will be responsible for directing and coordinating all functions at The Chandler Estate, including hiring and developing staff, recommending policies, plans and procedures to the president, ensuring sound financial position and managing the appropriate safety and care of all patients.

Huber most recently served as the Administrator of The Kendall House Wellness and Rehabilitation Center at Morningside Ministries at Menger Springs. Prior to coming to Morningside, Huber was the Executive Director of the Golden Manor Jewish Home for the Aged, where she oversaw all departments and directed all facets of budget planning and initiated financial strategies.

Prior to that, Huber was an adjunct professor in sociology at St. Philips College and served as an administrator for Social Work Services. She was a parole officer with the Texas Youth Commission and case manager with the Center for Health Care Services, as well as a social worker with the Bexar County Adult Detention.

Huber has served on the board of directors for the Bexar Senior Advisory Committee Area Agency on Aging, as well as the board of Texas Children’s Mental Health Matters. She has been a lecturer at the University of Texas Health Science Center, San Antonio’s Geriatric Education Program. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Texas Lutheran College and received her master of arts degree in sociology from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). She became licensed in nursing home administration in December 2004.
