Parenting Unplugged Radio was conceived out of a desire for many things one of which was to include Todd on a more regular basis in the life of his wife and kids. Mission accomplished!

It was also designed to connect, educate and support parents and their communities in authentic conversation around family and parenting. In other words, we want to be a resource where everyday answers can be found to everyday questions.

THE HISTORY & PHILOSOPHY

Parenting Unplugged Radio was conceived out of a desire for many things one of which was to include ToddLaura & Todd Mansfield – Radio Hosts behind Parenting Unplugged Radio ~ Portland, Oregon on a more regular basis in the life of his wife and kids. Mission accomplished! It was also designed to connect, educate and support parents and their communities in authentic conversation around family and parenting. In other words, we want to be a resource where everyday answers can be found to everyday questions.

We are all handed a child and a thirty year old handbook the moment the baby arrives. Here at Two Kids and a Dog Productions, we hope that through this show and other opportunities we can make that transition and the next 25 years a little easier. Personally, our goal is to “walk the talk” and live an authentic life, where we can integrate our work, our love and our passion for education and family.

We firmly believe that “it takes a village to raise our children.” In order to flourish as parents and citizens of the world we must acknowledge that we are all interconnected. We have the power to build community: based on interdependence and collective wisdom. Aunts, uncles, grandparents and chosen family are all vital to a healthy family system. This includes those who don’t have children of their own, because we have seen these individuals support community and serve as wonderful examples to the next generation.

Laura’s story and passion:

I had my first child five years ago.  I knew not what I was getting into.  I didn’t know the challenges and the joy that awaited me.  I had, and still have, so much to learn.

When I had my son, despite the many people around me, I felt alone.  I wanted to be the best parent I could yet I didn’t know where to turn.  I struggled with post-partum depression and perfectionism.  There wasn’t a parenting resource hub that I could go to.  I was missing my “village.”

It was this feeling that there was something missing, and the belief that I could do something about, that led me to creating, with my husband, Parenting Unplugged Radio.  This simple show has grown from one program to a whole network with more than 30,000 downloads per month.

The Village Network is currently comprised of three programs (one for married couples, one for single moms and one for dads) and we are expanding every week.  It has been an incredible and wonderful journey so far and I feel so blessed that people listen to us talk each day about our lives and that they join us to ask questions to our experts from around the globe.

I believe that parenting is the most important thing I will ever do in my life.  And I want the best experts to tell me, and as many listeners as I can glean, how to best create healthy and intentional family systems.  I don’t claim to be a perfect mother, but I am trying, and consciously moving forward makes all the difference.

I have known Laura and Todd long before they became parents. I was honored to be a part of their initial entrance into this wonderful world. I have watched them grow and apply their knowledge and skills to their own two wonderful sons. I am honored to be a part of their village.

Laura and Todd are filling the need of young parents and families to find and sort out reliable information - relying on experts' advice as well as that of experienced parents and friends. All young families need to feel that they are not alone in facing everyday challenges.

Laura & Todd - what a great idea. Your boys are adorable and what fun Phoebe had with them last summer at MF. Shy at first, then rolling around the ground and dancing with all of us. I had to raise my children alone, which was wonderful. I was leader and they are all splendid and involved in public & non-profit affairs.
The shrink told me long ago when the oldest was 5, "Don't worry all they need is one good parent." (If the other parent is out of the picture.)
