Joan Cramer of Portland, Puppeteer, Kids on the Block ~ Portland, Oregon

I would like to nominate Joan Cramer of Portland, Oregon. Puppeteer and volunteer. Since 1994 ,Joan has been volunteering for Kids on the Block Awareness Program educating children in our schools and community on social, safety and Health issues. Children today face many traumatic challenges and Joan is always available to volunteer for our program with open arms and compassion to make a difference in a child's world.

KOBAP purpose. We will continue to use puppetry to inspire children to appreciate differences, reject all forms of prejudice, and develop skills to grow up healthy and safe.

The reach of the program. We will continue to serve the entire metropolitan area, including Clark County, Washington, and Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas Counties in Oregon. We will continue to focus on elementary aged children.

 

She transforms powerlessness in the face of our community into empowerment to make a real difference in specific situations by the use of puppets. She also provides a bridge between the resources of our community and the needs of the organization to share the vision and mission of our program.

On September 1, 2009 the Kids on the Block Awareness program became a service of Impact Northwest, a forty three year-old community action organization with a mission to help people of all ages and abilities achieve and maintain self-sufficiency and alleviate the effects of poverty.

We recommend having small audiences so that more kids can actively participate in the experience, but we can accommodate groups as large as 100 or as few as 20 children.
