Susan Finch - President/Founder Binky Patrol Comforting Covers for Kids ~ Portland, Oregon
"When I created Binky Patrol, it was to fulfill a need I saw to allow people to volunteer as they could, on their own schedule and using their talents. I didn't realize the additional gifts I would be given by helping women learn new leadership and professional skills, gain confidence, and even build a resume while making a difference in the lives of children and teens in need of comfort. It has been an amazing journey."

With the encouragement of her mother to teach her how to sew blankets for unwed mothers, Susan came up with the concept of Binky Patrol and put a sign up sheet out in front of her gallery hoping someone else would want to join her. Four people signed up which led to a mention on Oprah and it became a national organization within a month.
Susan's belief is that when these opportunities present themselves, you have to say, "YES!" rather than, "oh, I'm not sure I'm ready." It's presenting itself because you are ready. This is how Susan does most things in her live - diving in with full faith knowing it will be great. It ties to a concept that embodied what her mother had taught her. When you are feeling badly for yourself or it's not going your way, get out of yourself and do something for others. Susan's transition back to public relations led to her future, and that of Binky Patrol.

What's a BINKY?
A binky is a homemade blanket that can be sewn, knitted, crocheted or quilted. They range in size from 3 feet square up to twin bed size. (Sometimes we get requests for smaller binkies, 2' x 2' for our little Preemie babies, stroller size and our Binky Angels.)
How important is a binky to a child in foster care?
“This Thursday we will be finalizing the adoption of our son and daughter. Our 8 year old daughter has a blanket with one of your labels on it. She got it at Orangewood. I just wanted to let you know how important it is to these children to have something of their own that they can keep. When my kids were taken out of their first home, they left with the clothes they were wearing - no favorite teddy bear, no photos, nothing. Unfortunately we've been unable to have any contact with their first family. For my daughter especially, the lack of personal history is very difficult. This blanket was hers at Orangewood, it went with her to a foster home, and it is now here at our house. When (and if) she outgrows it, this will be one of the things I pack away for her to keep forever. It has become a pivotal piece of her past. Please let all of your volunteers know how much their work means to these children.
Thank you!“ :-) Coleen

Susan Finch/Binky Patrol is the fifth recipient of the Good Samaritan Award in Orange County since it was established in 1975. Winners are selected without regard for creed or race, and members of the sponsoring church are excluded. Finch was selected because of the work she began in 1996 by founding Binky Patrol Comforting Covers for Kids.
This all-volunteer, national non-profit was founded on the idea that volunteers should be able to make a difference without having to adhere to a schedule or by possessing skills other than the desire to comfort a child or teen in need.
Binky Patrol makes and gives handmade blankets to children and teens in need of comfort. Those who are abused, ill, experiencing any type of trauma regardless of financial or living situation may receive a binky. Finch says, “I don’t care if they live on the hill in Laguna Beach or are moving from motel to motel – if a child is scared or hurting – they need a binky to remind them someone cares and that they are not forgotten.”
Susan Finch comes from an advertising and public relations background. After a few years owning an art gallery in the 90's, she was ready to get back into Public Relations. Susan had also been attempting to volunteer for local battered women's shelters but found their scheduled volunteer work and training to be impossible while she was working 14 hour days in retail. She needed a solution to allow her to volunteer. She realized that other people had this same problem so she created an organization that would welcome anyone with a kind heart and some time - as it fit their schedule.

Since 2000, in addition to being a very active Binky Patrol president, Susan has owned her web solutions business, volunteers at her children's school by teaching Art Lit and TAG courses, leads a Girls Scout troop and has found the time to fulfill a life-long dream by publishing her first book, Dino Manners (http://www.dinomanners.com). Her dreams have all come true, until she makes up some more. She continues to wear her family out regularly. They wouldn't have it any other way.

The Anaheim Family Justice Center Foundation, a nonprofit that provides direct victim assistance and empowerment programs to survivors of domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault and elder abuse, has partnered with Binky Patrol and Susan Finch. Binky Patrol does amazing work to support families in crisis and in need and we value our partnership. Susan herself is an amazing community leader who gives generously of herself, financially and through her work - most notably with her book, Dino Manners. We are fortunate to count her and Binky Patrol among our many valued community partners!

Having worked with the Binky Patrol Organization for the past 10 years I am always truly amazed at the work Susan is able to accomplish! She has inspired thousands of volunteers to dream her dream and because of that dream those volunteers have shown children that someone cares and that they are loved. SHE IS MY HERO FOR SURE! I am honored to be her friend.

It has been my privilege to be an Area Coordinator for the Binky Patrol for 10 years now. My Chapter is small, but we are an eager group and feel good that we have been able to help over 7500 babies and children in need in our area. Susan's energy is inspiring and she is to be admired for all she has accomplished in her life. Binky Patrol has been a lifesaver for me personally in my own life. It gives me a reason to get up in the morning and get on with each day. It has brought me friends I never would have had otherwise and given me the opportunity to meet some wonderful people. People helping children are great people and fun to be around/ God Bless Susan Finch.

I'm a new Area Coordinator for the Binky Patrol in Snellville, GA. What I love is that this organization can help any child in need, from infants to 18 years old. I also love it that Susan allows me to choose which organizations get to receive Binkies. This lets me help people "at home".
Tuesday, April 20, 2010 2:48 PM
My daughter and I have been making Binkies for Binky Patrol for 4 years. We get so much fun out of making and delivering the Binkies, and it also makes us happy that others enjoy receiving them. It is an honor and a priveledge to be part of Binky Patrol. Thanks to Susan for starting this worthwhile organization. It's the perfect thing for busy people who want to volunteer because you can make Binkies on your own schedule.

My mom and I love to make the Binkies for children. Binky Patrol has changed my life in a positive way. It makes me feel good to help someone in need, and I am grateful to be able to participate with Susan Finch in Binky Patrol.

Susan does a wonderful job and such an important one for our yougsters.

The story is great. My daughter, husband and myself made Binkies because we signed up for the Disney "Give a Day, Get a Day". We were so thrilled after finishing the Binkies that I have signed up to volunteer as well as my 9 1/2 daughter. I will enjoy giving a little of my time to help others. I want my daughter to learn and value what she has and to give a little time to help others. The best gift of all is to see the happiness of others.

Handmaking baby quilts and hats is good medicine for me and it makes soomeone else happy at the other end. Binky Patrol is the best!

We found Binky Patrol through the Disney "Give a Day, Get a Day" We make the binkies with our 4 children as well as my daughters with another family in my middle daughterGirl Scout troop. We loved the experience. What was awesome is that my children were able to choose where they wanted to donate the Binkies. My children chose Ronald Mc Donald House. My middle daughter called up RMH in Los Angeles, made arrangements to drop off the Binkies and then my husband delivered the Binkies. My children loved doing them. We joined the Santa Monica chapter. Another interesting story is that our church youth group is doing a project for Binkie Patrol and My kids are estatic- 120 14-18 yr olds making Binkies this weekend. We didnt know they were doing it for BP until just last week. It is awesome.. We cant wait unitl summer when we can do a blanket a week.

I've been an area coordinator for Binky Patrol for 6 years now and have seen first hand just how much a Binky can help a child in crisis. Keep up the great work Susan. She is one great lady whose vision has helped thousands of children around the world! I love working with this organization.

I just found Susan and the Binky Patrol in February of this year and was thrilled to get a chapter started here in South Carolina. We have already made a delivery to a battered women' s shelter and are working on lots of other ideas. Susan works tirelessly and always responds when I have a question. The Binky Patrol has afforded me the opportunity to do something in our state that I would not have been able to do on my own and I am so thankful for it!

I am the Area Coordinator for a fairly new chapter of Binky Patrol in Clifton, New Jersey. I have enjoyed my brief period with this organization and hope to continue for as long as they will have me. I have emailed Susan on several occasions and I can tell she is a wonderful and kind person. It is a great group that she has started and I wish her the very best for years to come. This is the easiest group to help because you get to work around your own schedule. I really love working for the Binky Patrol.

I have been the Binky Patrol Area Coordinator in Temecula, California since 2001. I met Susan because my daughter's Girl Scout Troop made binkies for the Orange County Chapter many moons ago. Since then, I have made many binkies and have gotten a lot of other people to join me. Through this entire time, Susan has been encouraging, professional and kind. I have been blessed to work with such a wonderful person!

The Binky Patrol has opened a door through which I can donate my time and knitting and crocheting skills to a very worthy cause. The Santa Monica chapter, which I found on the Internet, has put me in contact with some terrific people who share my interest in doing something for those who need comfort. Good for Susan for starting Binky.

The Binky Patrol makes blankets for the elderly as well! I am the Activity Director of Fireside Convalescent Hospital. Our area coordinator, Sue, has donated blankets to our Residents. It is so wonderful for our Residents to not only receive the physical warmth that these blankets provide, but to know that people on the outside world are thinking of them. Thanks so much!!!

It was my personal pleasure to nominate Susan for this award. She is inspiring, kind, thoughtful, funny and has a never-ending supply of energy. I learned about the Binky Patrol in 2005 when I was seeking a group to volunteer my time and blankets to. I am an avid crafter and love to help people. When researching the Binky Patrol, in addition to blanket makers, I found they needed a volunteer to help maintain their website - another skill I possess. I offered my services, and the Binky Patrol has been a big part of my life ever since! This has been the most rewarding volunteer work I have ever done. It is amazing what a difference we can make by simply giving a blanket to comfort a child. When delivering blankets to area hospitals, the nurses and staff are simply amazed at what we, the Binky Patrol, do for others. I am so very fortunate to be a part the Binky Patrol, and proud to be associated with such a wonderful, giving person as Susan is. I can think of no one more deserving of this award and recognition.

I first signed on with Susan and Binky Patrol in July of1999. I wanted to share the good will that had been afforded me by my community during a personal crisis. Susan was warm and helpful and had the "right stuff" as far as I was concerned, so I joined on. It has been 11 years of a wonderful, supportive and gracious relationship. I was rewarded for my participation with Binky Patrol by the kudos I receive from her with every triumph. She is a leader and a motivator and has helped to comfort children in need all over the world, not just the US. She deserves every good thing that comes her way. No one I know has a heart as big. Please give her this award.

Binky Patrol makes it possible for me to share my love of sewing in a very special way. My first Bink-a-thon was such a happy experience that I look forward to participating as often as possible. Here is a big THANKYOU to the people and buisnesses that contribute to this organization and especialy to the Gary and Dana Polhill family for doing all they can to keep Binky Patrol alive and well in Murrieta.

I've been involved with The Binky Patrol after reading about Susan and the project in the Philadelphia Inquirer years ago. It took me a while to find the local chapter, but with the help of and email exchange with Susan, we located it, and I've been contributing ever since. Very satisfying, and lovely people to work with.
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 6:53 PM
I have been a volunteer with Binky Patrol since the beginning and am now happily the Area Coordinator of the Santa Monica chapter. What appealed to me most about Binky Patrol is that we are able to donate our binkies locally where we find the most need - to children of all ages - up to seniors! I met so many wonderful new people through the Disney Give-a-Day project, and found lots of new places who were thrilled to receive our binkies. I'm so proud to be a part of Binky Patrol, and have Binky Patrol a big part of my life.
Wednesday, April 21, 2010 8:35 PM
Susan has been my inspiration since I met her. I joined Binky Patrol when I first heard about it in the Oprah show. She has helped many of us realize our dream to help others by starting Binky Patrol. I really hope she wins because she is an amazing person who always thinks about others and deserves to get this award!

Susan is an "Angel", I have been a part of this program for 6 years and it has enriched my life so much more than all the 100's of blankets I've made and donated to BInky... Our founder was stepping down and was afraid that she would have to close our Chapter, but even working full time and with two son's in High School Sports, there was no way I was going to let this happen...so it took three of us to fill the shoes of our Founder Sheri Ademan, but we have been able to keep it going...we make between 75-150 blankets each month. WE COULD NOT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT SUSAN FINCH!!! With the Give-a-day, Get-a-day Disney program, I was in constant contact with Susan and she made herself available to me and every person in every chapter through out the U.S. It is an honor to be a part of this organization!

I could not agree more that Susan is an "Angel!" Since the first time I spoke with her I knew she was special. She has a halo of " Binky Magic" which she shares with everyone invoIved! I am honored to have been an Area Co-ordinator of the Santa Monica Binky Patrol. Susan held my hand every step of the way and showed me how each binky I made and/or donated was truly a gift to me. Susan has the most incredibly huge heart and is truly inspiring. I am blessed to know her!

After retiring and moving the chance to belong to Binky Patrol was perfect for me. I enjoying making blankets and hats for any child that is in need, another big plus in belonging to Binky Patrol is meeting the wonderful people in our group and knowing we are making a difference. Susan has changed the world.

When I discovered Binky about eight years ago, I was thrilled to find an outlet for my crocheting. I have received far more than I have given. And I have learned many new and creative ways to make blankets and hats as well as making some dear friends within our chapter. Susan Finch started it all!
Friday, April 23, 2010 3:45 PM
Susan and I have been friends for over 25 years. One of my cousins introduced us. Susan continuously amazes me with her boundless "you can do it" energy and the constant giving of her time, talent and treasure. This is a true rarity these days. Her enthusiasm is endless and she is even a fabulous wife and mother. Who says you can't have it all! Susan makes others see that the possibilities are endless! I just love her!
Friday, April 23, 2010 5:04 PM
Susan is awesome! 13 years ago, I found Binky Patrol through a volunteer website. I had no idea at the time what I was getting into! Not only did I find a fantastic organization to help, I made a close and dear friend. Although Susan and I don't live near each other anymore, we will always have a special bond, with a love and appreciation for each other and helping children in need.

I have been a Binky Patrol Area Coordinator since I met Susan in 2000. Her belief that we should be able to volunteer on our own schedule is the main reason that I started my own chapter, as I had difficulty coordinating my work schedule with other chapters' schedules. I quickly enrolled the help of my mother who makes 15-30 binkies a month nearly year-round! Through Binky Patrol, I have met great people and have seen many kids inspired to start volunteering as well. Susan is a great motivator and a very supportive leader. Even when I cannot find time to do other outside volunteering, I always can find time for Binky Patrol. I was overwhelmed by the interest in Binky Patrol by participants in the Disney Give-A-Day, Get-A-Day program and many, many said they chose us because we did not set an age limit. Ages 6 and up (and sometimes younger siblings) had so much fun making binkies that nearly every family said that they looked forward to making more, including for themselves. Overall, I just can't say enough about the opportunity and great feeling I have when I know we are comforting kids (and seniors).

Binky Patrol is such a wonderful organization. I've never met Susan myself but it has to take an enormous heart to start a program that gives comfort to children no matter what their background. The only requirement is that they are a child in need and their are so many. I'm so glad I am able to make a small contribution to Binky Patrol in the Temecula, Ca. chapter.
Friday, April 23, 2010 10:19 PM
When I retired 6 years ago, a fellow retiree introduced me to Binky Patrol. It has given me a way to help children while enjoying my hobbies and meeting new wonderful people. It's a win-win-win from my point of view. Kudos to Susan for founding Binky Patrol.

I have been an area coordinator for 9 years now and have distributed over 550 binkies to needy children in Montana. Susan is always there to answer questions, bring new opportunities to chapters such as the Disney Day of Service. It's amazing how one small idea has grown into such a large successful non-profit benefiting children across the U.S.

I have so much admiration for the Binky Patrol in our community and look forward to supporting their events each year. They raise the bar each year and are making great contributions to this wonderful cause.

My neighbor, Yvonne Makowsky is the Binky representative in my area. I understaand she is a personal friend of Susan's. As an R.N. and co-founder of a free clinic here in Winter Haven, I have been the recipient of several BINKY blankets that have been given to the poor, lonely, and confused children of the migrant workers who enter the clinic weekly. It truly is a tremendous organization. Thank you all.

Susan certainly deserves my vote for what she started with a simple blanket donation. This is the REAL gift that keeps on giving - Susan and her organization and all the volunteers that give of their talents and time. I help my daughter with deliveries and the looks on peoples faces when we bring in these blankets make it all so worth while.

I've been involved with the Binky Patrol for about 10 years, in two different cities, and have been the chapter coordinator here for about 4 years. It's not work when you love what you're doing, and I immensely enjoy being able to help children in my community and region.

Although I don't personally know Susan I do know abou the Binky Patrol, their good deeds and the strong support my eastcoast friend, Marlys Vaughan has furnished in this extremely worthwhile mission. If Marlys thinks highly of Susan, then certainly my vote goes to her as well. Way to go Susan from a Massachusetts resident and admirer of a cause that knows no religion suffice love.

Being the spouse of a local coordinator for the Binky Patrol I have found myself immersed in this wonderful organization. In fact it has caused me to become a volunteer for one of the organizations that our Lake Wales Binky Patrol supports. (CASA/Guardian Ad Litem)---------One vote for Susan would not seem to be enough for what this woman has done for the children of our country. My thanks, my heart , and my vote go to her for her vision and leadership.

Binky Patrol allows the quiet grandmothers among us to share our skills with the children in our community. Blankets I an my friends have made have gone to young cancer patients, an infant who survived a car crash when her parents (including Dad just back from Iraq) did not, Babies born to low income mothers, foster children, and many others. Thank you, Susan, for organizing an outlet for our labors.

"...if a child is scared or hurting – they need a binky to remind them someone cares and that they are not forgotten.” So sweet and simple...my vote is for Susan Finch and the exceptional volunteers of the Binky Patrol.

I found the Binky Patrol through the Hands on Network and Disney Give a Day program and I am so glad I did. Making blankets for needy children is a great idea and so rewarding. My family and I had a lot of fun with our project and will continue to donate through Binky Patrol throughout the year. We are hooked. The impact of Susan's idea and hard work now spans nationwide. Great job!

My family and I became involved with the Binky Patrol organization through Disney/Hands on Network. What a wonderful organization and a great way to continue to show our children that there are other people in the world who are in need. We all enjoyed making the blankets, especially because of the realization that they would be helping comfort children.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 7:41 AM
I was lucky enough to learn about this origination through the get a day give a day program, and I fell in love with it. I know for my 2 children they each have a blanket that and comfort them when they need something more than mommy. I am so happy that Susan has come up with a way for anyone to be able to give the children who need more than a hug sometimes that comfort that they are looking for.

Hello, My family and I volunteered for Binky Patrol for the 1st time recently. I find this organization extrememly well organized. As the mom of 4, I sincerely understand the importance of comfort items. My oldest daughter,19, had a "blankie" since birth. I know it helped her thru every day life issues, at times she referred to it as her best friend. If it can help a child from an intact home, a blankies influence on a child who has somehow been displaced , must be life changing. Hats off to Susan for forming such an organization that must comfort so many children. I also love the fact that they blankets are distributed to older children as well, the ones who perhaps need it the most.

What a great project. I vote for Susan because although many people can come up with ideas, she made the idea become a reality, and then stuck with it is a great achievement. I hope this continues for a long time! Great job, Susan!

Binky patrol has made volunteering easy. Thanks so much for the opportunities you present. It's nice to be able to help comfort a needy child.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 8:00 AM
I think binky patrol is a great organization, it helps the children not only to feel appreciated, but loved. A blanket is a form of comfort, something that these children are in need of whether they are from abused families or sick in a hospital. My vote is for Susan Finch. I was glad to donate a blanket to a child in need and through this great non-profit organization. :)

Our family made blankets for BINKY Patrol through the "Disney Give a Day, Get a Day" program. We enjoyed making the blankets and it made us feel good to know that we would make a difference for these children and hopefully put smiles on their faces :)
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 8:20 AM
My good friend Yvonne Makowski has been involved with the Binky brigade for at least ten years, and has made a difference in so many lives. I cast my vote for Susan for bringing this idea to fruition and touching so many fragile little lives. Ann Ince Knoxville, Tn

Tuesday, April 27, 2010 10:47 AM
It was a great opportunity for my family to participate in making blankets for the Binky Patrol. This was our first year in making the blankets but it wont be our last! my children enjoyed making the blankets and that they went to children in need..we love what Susan Finch had done.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 10:55 AM
My children had a great time making blankets for kids. It really made them think about what's important. Thanks for developing such a great cause where kids can actually help kids. Outstanding job Susan Finch!!
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 10:56 AM
What an amazing woman and a wonderful organization!!
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 11:17 AM
I first found out about the Binky Patrol through the Disney give A Day, Get a day Program. I was so happy I could actually help , yet on my own time. As a child who lived in foster care I can understand why having a blanket would mean so much.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 11:36 AM
It was a privilege to participate in the efforts of the Binky Patrol. Susan Finch is the perfect example of what a difference one person can make by stepping up and giving of her time and talents. We can each make an effort to improve our little corner of the world, but sometimes we just need a Susan Finch to help direct our efforts. So many children and teens today are in need of a "warm fuzzy" in their lives, due to what are often tragic life circumstances. The Binky Patrol helps to fulfill that need. Susan Finch is deserving of this award and I hope she will receive the honor for her heroic efforts!
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 11:50 AM
I think the work you are doing is so worthwhile. You put a smile on the faces of many children with your work on the Binky Patrol.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 11:50 AM
The Binky Patrol makes a difference in the lives of everyone. The one donating the blanket has a sense of pride knowing that his/her blanket is benefitting others in need. And the receiver has a sense of thankfulness that someone cared. Working together, we create this wonder and thank Susan Finch for all her efforts. She is truly deserving of this award.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 12:12 PM
The Binky Patrol is helping to bring comfort to so many needed children and teens, and all this is done due to the effort of Susan. I only think of the little ones that are helped, but many more are in need of help. The work of Susan is unbelievable.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 12:14 PM
My family had a wonderful time making blankets. Binky Patrol is a great organization and without the wonderful idea that Susan Finch had to start it all, none of this would be possible. This was an extremely rewarding experience and I feel as if I truly was able to make a difference for people.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 12:25 PM
The Binky Patrol has helped many people in a time of need. They have something soft to comfort them in an otherwise scary situation.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 1:01 PM
I admire all that Susan has done for we know a leader in another state who has orgaized women and spread binkys to many, many children in need. They put their care to work!!
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 3:20 PM
I think Susan Finch started a wonderfull program most people dont realize the importance of a small item like a doll or a blanket like a binky is to a small child they realy need things to hold on to when in unsure situations. More power to the volentiers in the Binky Patrol.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 3:26 PM
I am so glad to have been able to volunteer through this organization. With 2 small kids it is hard to find a place where I can so easily volunteer my time and skills. I am able to make blankets at home and just drop them off. It's great to have my kids help out with the blankets too. What a great lesson it teaches them. Thank you for making this possible.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 3:47 PM
Wonderful organization. Had to retire to Florida to find out about it.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 4:42 PM
Such a great organization, such a simple thing can mean the world to a child in need.
Tuesday, April 27, 2010 4:49 PM

My family and I volunteered to make blankets. This is a great opportunity for families to get involved with helping the community. I was grateful to be able to participate in Binky Patrol and love the idea of giving a child something . What a wonderful idea and organization this is!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 5:45 PM
I have had the pleasure of working closely with Susan and the Binky Patrol organization. On behalf of the Department I have accepted several of the donated blankets which are placed in the back of our patrol cars and handed out to child victims. Such a small item has provided much needed comfort to these little victims during a tragic time in their young lives. Susan has gone well beyond what the average person would consider doing and this organization has brought joy in such a creative fashion that I am honored to be a small part of it.
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 5:51 PM
Susan is a wonderful, giving, and loving person. She is not afraid to ask for help - a very needed skill. My three young children made blankets and they will remember the experience for the rest of their lives. We gave 67 Binky Patrol blankets to a charity and they just had to call me to verify that all the blankets were hand made and asked "how did that happen??". I explained about the organization and she was amazed that even children lended a hand. They will be used in gift baskets to new mothers who need extra support.
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 6:28 PM
What an amazing gift Susan is giving by organizing her time and that of others to help facilitate the giving of blankets to those in need. The Binky Patrol is a role model volunteer organization! Not everyone can donated their time outside the house but anyone can make a blanket!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 6:35 PM
The world is a much better place with people like Susan Finch. And, her Binly Patrol project is a true manifestation of all that is good with the human spirit. You rock, Susan!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 6:48 PM
Susan is an inspiration to all of us- especialy busy moms who want to help when their schedules allow! Great job!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 6:49 PM
What a great organization. We made blankets as a family to donate, and had such a positive experience. My kids were so excited to make something that would go to a child in need.
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 7:15 PM
Susan is an amazing inspiration to us all. She has devoted countless hours, time, and energy to this needed cause. We need to clone her for she truly sets the examples for us all to follow. Great job Susan - from one of your biggest fans! Keep up the great job!!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 7:27 PM
An inspirational story from an inspiring woman... My daughter's Girl Scout troop made binky blankets during a meeting. It was a great opportunity to give back, and we had so much fun doing so!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 7:48 PM
Susan is wonderful. I helped make a few blankets earlier this year for her and she made it so easy for me to help out with such a wonderful cause!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 8:18 PM
What I love about Binky Patrol is it gives regular people a chance to give back. I wanted my family to serve but was not sure how or who was in need. Binky makes it easy with specific instruction on how to make the quilts. When we dropped them off they even said we could accompany them to deliver the blankets. I know every blanket that is made goes to someone who truly needs it and feels more love because of it. Thanks Susan!
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 8:40 PM
I vote for Susan! I made my first blanket this spring for this great cause! It's a comforting thought that something so simple as a blanket can really make a child feel at ease.
Wednesday, April 28, 2010 8:40 PM
Susan is a wonderful example for us all. Everyone should have a cause and believe in it how she does, her dedication is incredible. You Rock Susan!

I am an area coordinator in Indiana. Our group has operated for 6 yrs. and has given hundreds on Binkys. It is wonderful to be part of a national organization while serving at the local level. Susan has helped bring out the best in us. She has developed a well run program. She is always helpful and a blessing.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 8:03 AM
Binky Patrol is a great organization and Susan Finch does a fantastic job of running her chapter!
Thursday, April 29, 2010 8:56 AM
For those of you who have not personally met Susan I can vouch for all the above and more. At a recent Binky event she provided inspiration for everyone involved. No small feat when you consider there were about 30-40 people involved.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 10:01 AM
We got to know Susan when we signed up to make blankets for a day at Disney! Susan was wonderfull in guiding us through the whole process. We enjoyed it so much we ended up making many more blankets!! Thank you Susan for all you do....
Thursday, April 29, 2010 10:52 AM
It was an honor to be able to create and donate to an organization dedicated to comforting children and teens. Susan does so much for children and teens beyond the Binky Patrol. Thank you, Susan, for all the children and teens who have benefited from your kindness and dedication.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 11:00 AM
I was part of Binky Patrol in it's infancy more than 10 years ago and had the privilege to see it grow. Working with Susie and Binky volunteers are still some of my fondest memories. There's nothing like seeing the joy in a child's face when they receive their own binky, and when they realize it was made just for them. I experienced that joy myself just a few months ago when my husband and father of my 7 year old son passed away. It was the day after my husbands funeral, Valentines day 2010 and my son, Hunter and I tried to get our minds off things and went to a movie. When we came home there was a package on our doorstep addressed to Hunter. He ripped it open as if it were Christmas and was overjoyed when he saw his very own binky! And then a few days later Susie sent one to me with touches of my Puerto Rican heritage. I cried like a baby, I never thought I would be on the receiving end of one of the blankets and I was touched. Susie has positively impacted many with her dedication to Binky Patrol and the children for more than a decade. She is an extraordinary woman who has given her heart and soul.

Binky Patrol has our vote. Thank you very much for all of your hard work and congratulations on the new found success.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 1:43 PM
Susan Fitch has inspired all of us to do more for our communities. Her idea of bringing comfort to children in the form of a blanket may sound like such a simple task, but to those that receive a handmade blanket it is a reminder that during their time of need- someone cared. I am reminded of the child that is transported by a helicopter from the trauma center clinging to their Binky. Or the most recent children in Haiti that have lost everything, but LOVE their new Binkies. Susan’s unending energy to this cause inspires us all to do just a little more for others.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 1:48 PM
Susan continues to reach out to people from all walks of life and continues to help people reach out to other people. Because the Binky Patrol was involved with the Disney Give A Day, Get A Day promotion, I was able to recruite friends and family to reach out to other people and organizations. Also, Susan has great ideas on how to volunteer at your child's local school and how to help with fundraising for local school. Her volunteer ideas and fundraising ideas always involve children. The adults don't run the show, the kids do. MJ
Thursday, April 29, 2010 1:58 PM
Susan is wonderful. Upbeat, kind and efficient, a wonderful combination. Our family has volunteered in her organization and had a positive experience. I commend her for what she does for the community.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 2:04 PM
Susan Finch started something that I am so proud to be a part of!! I had wanted to volunteer and do something to help somewhere, somehow but I didn't know even where to start. I am at stay at home mother of three little ones and it is hard to find something that I could do and have them be a part of too! Then I found Binky Patrol! I had no idea what a profound impact this organization would have not just on me and my family but on the lives I have got to touch with just being a part of it. I am a part of a wonderful chapter in Lincoln, CA where the director Terrie is also an angel :-) I had the opportunity to deliver blankets to so many great organizations from Children's hospitals to children's homes and everything in between. I have got to see a difference a Binky can make in a child's life and for that I am so thankful. So to Susan, Terrie and all of those Binky Patrolers out there, thank you, it is a honor to be part of such a wonderful organization and a wonderful group of people. Thank you Susan for having the vision to do something, to make a difference.......
Thursday, April 29, 2010 2:45 PM
Thank you so much for providing this comfort to needy children. As president of Montana School Counselor Association, I was thrilled to provide this opportunity to school counselors across Montana for their students. What a wonderful gesture! Thank you for your service.

I think this is such a great organization, and making blankets is always a nice thing to do, especially when it is for others. Susan is one of my good friends, and I remember helping her collect the blankets, and meeting many new faces! wonderful organization!
Thursday, April 29, 2010 3:21 PM
Yep, I'm voting for Susan and Binky Patrol! Having worked with Susan in another organization, I've been lucky to experience her warmth, open-heartedness and to see how she cares. Susan is one of the most generous people I know and Binky Patrol reflects how much she values those around her, even -- especially -- children she has never met.
Thursday, April 29, 2010 3:49 PM
Susan and Binky Patrol are marvelous! Susan has stepped up to the plate to volunteer tirelessly for several great causes over the years, not just Binky Patrol. However, I can't think of any of her causes more worthy than soothing comforting a child in need. Thank you Susan, for all you do!

I just recently went to one of Susan's "Bink-a-thon" wow it was great. We all worked all day making over 100 blankets to share. Susan was incredible, full of energy, helping and directing us. What a perfect concept using my talents and interests to help others. Thanks for starting Binky Patrol.

Friday, April 30, 2010 5:35 AM
Susan is an inspiration, good for you!!
Friday, April 30, 2010 7:13 AM
I would like to vote for Susan and all the wonderful people she has supporting her. Without the generosity of this group we would be giving children of all ages a stuffed animal or a blanket that isn’t very special. These blankets are special not only because they are made with loving care (which is easily seen) but because they also have character, you can talk to the kids about their blanket and how it was made especially for them. It is a one of a kind, just like they are. It is theirs to keep and something to hold on to. We were so pleased to hear about this project and we are very lucky to have such caring people who like us volunteer their time and efforts to help others. There is nothing more noble than people taking care of people. Susan Eastgate VFD

Friday, April 30, 2010 12:55 PM
Binky Patrol is an easy way to teach my family to serve and help others. Not only does it help those who receive the blankets, but it teaches those who serve.

Sunday, May 02, 2010 9:25 AM
Susy is my sister(youngest). She has shown no matter where you are in the line up you can succeed. Her success is not gaged by monetary value but by her love for her family and the endless helping of others. She gives us, her brothers and sister, great pride knowing the many people she has helped and inspired throughout the world. Our mother was always very proud of her and to this day I know Susy has a very special Binky Patroller in her corner. I know a few things. One for sure is Susan Finch is not done, not by any stretch of the imagination. The world is a better place today because of her and will continue to be positively impacted by her tireless efforts to help others.

Susan Finch is a miracle worker as far as I'm concerned. She's a wife, a mother of young children , is employed and still manages to run such an IMPORTANT ORGANIZATION. So many children have been wrapped in a blanket with love because of her vision. She deserves the award for sure.
Monday, May 03, 2010 7:27 AM
Susan is a great role model and I thank her for her tireless effort. The Binky Patrol not only gives love to children it also gathers people from all over for a singular cause. As the saying goes - it takes a village.

Binky Patrol makes such a difference in the lives of children. Thank you Susan for starting something wonderful
Monday, May 03, 2010 12:19 PM
The first time I heard of this organization was when I volunteered for Disney Give a Day Get A Day. Yes, I signed up just because I wanted to make a way for my children to get to Disney. Let me tell you, my heart changed. When making the blankets for this organization, it created bonding time with my children. They looked forward to doing this activity as a family. The fact that the binkies were going to a good cause made my children more appreciative of the family that we have. We have made this our volunteer service and have continued on making binkies. What a great cause and a way to give back to our community!!! Thanks for creating an organization that is purposeful and brings good things to people.
Monday, May 03, 2010 12:24 PM
What a wonderful service. Thank you for the opportunity to "give back"
Monday, May 03, 2010 3:43 PM
Binky Patrol has been a large part of my life for the past 7 years. The work we do is appreciated in the eyes of the children who get our blankets. Binky is such a wonderful way to contribute to the community and meet a great bunch of ladies who feel the same way.

Until I met Susan Finch, I had never heard of Binky Patrol and had no idea there was such a simple way to give back to the community. I believe strongly in volunteering especially when it comes to improving a child's life. It's truly inspirational to see what a difference one person can make in bringing people together to help others.

If I had known how my life would change, upon meeting Susan in May of 1996, I wouldn't have believed it. Over these past 14 years, I have learned so much from Susan. Her unwavering devotion, faith in others others and her spirit that says" yes we can" is contagious. Binky Patrol's Mission Statement making "Comforting Covers for Kids" is so simple, yet effective. Make blankets to give to Children and Teens in need, to remind them they are loved and that someone cares. I have been blessed to have Susan as a friend, mentor and role model. I joined Binky Patrol to help others, but it is I who have been given so much more in return. Thank you to Susan and all the volunteers for your continued support of Binky Patrol.

Susan is a remarkable woman with an unsurmountable of energy, kindness and love for all those around her and in everything she does. She is most certainly one of a kind. I am blessed to have the pleasure of working with her, having her as a friend and mentor in this lifetime and wouldn't want it any other way.

I first heard about this organization when my 8 year old daughter and I signed up for Disney Give a Day Get a Day. My heart was touched by this organization. Children are a gift from God, and anything to help make them feel special or have something home-made to help comfort them is a blessing, we are honored to be a part of it. Thanks for this organization and the work they do to give back to God's children.

I learn about the Binky Patrol because of the Disney Give a Day. I was more that happy to help this organization. What a wonderful thing they do everyday for our youth. Thanks for letting be a small part.

When I first heard about the Disney "Give a day, Get a pass" I thought wow a free pass to Disneyland. Living in Montana, I was limited as to the opportunities that were available to complete the volunteer process. When I heard about the Binky Patrol, I thought what a great way to give back. I had so much fun making the fleece blankets, but more importantly I was able to make something that would give a child some comfort. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this GREAT organization.

Susan, what a huge thing you are doing for kids and their families! I know first hand how important it is! My son was 5 months old and in the hospital where we spent 5 days. We received a blanket from a like organization and it was such a big comfort to him and to us. We still treasure that blanket!! Thank you for doing this!
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 4:19 PM
Such a wonderful thing you are doing. I have friends who have been recipients of such blankies and I know it truly blesses them in their hard times. Keep up the awesome work!
Wednesday, May 12, 2010 6:28 PM
I make nearly 20-30 binkies per month because it is so fulfilling to be able to know that needy/sick/abused children can be comforted. I really enjoy participating with my daughter's Karing Kwilts Chapter.

When I first heard about Binky Patrol I had thought about making a blanket to donate. The more research I did I made the decision to start a chapter in my area. I am now seeing what a great need there is right here local to us. Feedback from places we have donated to telling us children have never even had their own blanket before now. So I just say WOW and thanks to Susan for starting such a wonderful organization and keeping it going. I am thankful to be a part of it.

Mrs. Finch is an uncommonly selfless woman in an incredibly selfish world. With her devotion to helping those children in need inspires us all to be just a little more loving.

Susan is such an amazingly giving woman. She makes having such a huge heart effortless. What an inspiration.

I started my Binky Patrol chapter after my Mom passed away, as a way to honor her memory and pass on the skills she taught me. Her favorite charity was anything for kids. It keeps me feeling connected to her when I continue to do something she loved (kids and quilting).

Congrats Susan - on Binky, your nomination, your web business and your new book. It was great getting to know you through the web design of CDS/SmileCare, finding we had Oregon in common, and then finding Binky Patrol at Bears Quilt Shop in Garden Grove, and knowing it was you! My grandson loves Dino Manners as do the teachers, and the SJC Marines who received their donated book. Keep up the great work. I think you could be the inspiration for a chapter in The Wild Idea Club by Linda Krall, Andrew Chapman and Lee Silber.

An absolutely wonderful organization!
Saturday, May 15, 2010 9:01 PM
We love this organization! When we were looking for a service project to do in our community, Binky Patrol was one of the few that allowed younger children to serve. My youngest children could help with this and feel a sense of helping in our community. Thank you, Binky Patrol!
Saturday, May 15, 2010 10:21 PM
I vote for Susan Finch. We have had a great experience making the blankets for such a great cause. Thank you Binky Patrol!

Thank you Susan Finch! You brought my family of 6 together for a fun 8 hours of tying blankets together. From ages 3-39, we all participated. : ) They were so excited when they learned that children that needed an extra "hug" would be using one of the blankets they made. What a wonderful cause! Thanks Binky Patrol!!!

I had my first experience with Binky Patrol as part of Disneyland's "Give a Day, Get a Day" effort of volunteering. I made 2 quilts for adolescents. I know how much this age needs hugs. I felt I put love in every stitch for an anonymous young man and young woman who feel lost and alone. Just knowing they would feel the love in the spirit given, I got more out of it than I gave. Then when at Disneyland, we were given such great respect by all who saw the badges we wore stating we had volunteered. Thank you Susan, for providing me the opportunity to share a small part of me the the world we all live in. Congratulations, good luck, and God bless you!

I was introduced to Binky Patrol from a friend at work and found myself enthralled with sewing and crotcheting binkys. The organization is absolutely wonderful and I'm so happy to know how much the Binkys mean to the folks who receive them. I'm proud to be associated with such a worthwhile organization that is run so professionally. Thank you Binky Patrol!!!! :D

Thank you for starting this great organization. My son (who had been completely healthy) was rushed to the hospital on May 6, 2010 with stroke like symptoms. After many tests he was starting to feel better and a woman at the hospital came in and asked me what he likes to do. I told her that he loves to read books. When she came back she had four brand new books and a Patriots Fleece blanket ( from the Binky Patrol in Laguna Beach, CA) that she said he could keep. He immediately pulled back the sheets and wanted the blanket. He cuddled with the blanket the whole time he was in the hospital and has done so every night since he came home. He has to go for some follow up tests and to see the neurologist again and he wants to take his blanket with him. Thank you so much for sending blankets to Children's Hospitals all around the country, you truly are making a difference!!
